Trafficking

Most man, visiting prostitutes do not realize that sex trafficking is a global problem. To most people in developed countries, trafficked woman make a good characters in movies. Women may be either domestically or internationally trafficked. It would be rare of the average guy to recognize the signs that he is with a prostitute who is being forced .

Sex trafficking may occur within or across international borders. Generally the flow of trafficked women is from poor rural countries to richer industrialized developed countries. According to U.N. estimates, approximately 25 million people are being trafficked around the world at any given time., 80% of them women and children. Women from poorer countries are most susceptible to being lured by the promise of good jobs. Former Soviet block countries, especially ones who are new members of the European Union have become a favorite recruiting ground of traffickers.

In the United States, women who are trafficked across international border’s are mostly from South America, Southeast Asia and the former Soviet Block Countries, these women trafficked into the United States for the purposes of sexual slavery. A 2006 ABC News story stated that, contrary to existing misconceptions,

American citizens may also be coerced into sex slavery. Once a girl has been taken from the source country usually, a poor country and brought to the rich or destination country, she is often forced to pay of the dept she has accumulated. (For her transportation, housing and other costs) This is known as a debt bondage and is a often driving force in making the girl become a prostitute.

Pimps/Traffickers are involved at all levels of human trafficking. Control of the women is paramount to the successes of trafficking. Pimps/Traffickers use the same methods to control prostituted women, that a women batterers use against their victims.

Sometimes pimps force the girls to become addicted to drugs, this gives the pimps an additional form of control. To Pimp/Trafficker, the girls are a form of livestock to be used in any way to make money. When a girl is no longer a profitable, she is traded or sold to another pimp.

Although, the studies are limited, it seems the psychology of a pimped woman is very similar to that of a battered woman. The use of violence, economic exploitation, social isolation, verbal abuse, intimidation and sexual abuse are effective methods used on her. The longer the pimp controls and isolates her, the more his power over her grows. What the psychological effects of the experience of being trafficked has on a woman, is still not well understood. Clinicians have found a woman who has been trafficked/pimped exhibit depression, mood disorders, anxiety disorders (including post-traumatic stress disorder), and sometimes substance abuse.

Even if a girl escapes trafficking, it sometimes very difficult for her to reintegrate into society. Like a battered woman, many trafficked woman will return to their pimp/trafficker. The prostitution and sexual exploitation of women has existed for centuries. Twentyfour-Seven recognizes tourists and man visit prostitutes, our goal is to ensure they remember, prostitution and trafficking can appear voluntary, but in reality the girls are not there their own free choice.

Almost all the girls are there because of circumstance and coercion . If you are a man visiting a prostitute, treating a sex worker with respect and reporting suspected human trafficking is the most important thing you can do.
